Hello all,

A day in the life of an autism mom. I truly pray everyone is doing well and is safe during these difficult times with the covid-19 crisis.  I want us to remember God’s faithful promises during times like these. We can stand in confidence that our Father’s faithful promises are YES and AMEN.  He promises to never leave us nor forsake us!  Therefore I encourage everyone to keep praying and declaring Psalm 23, 27 and 91 till we get over this hurdle.  The kids and I have been spending time outdoors soaking up the sun on warm days…which we LOVE and just enjoying family time together!  Hopefully you have caught up with the previous monthly blogs before reading this one, but Emma is doing great both at home and at school. Her behavior has significantly improved. Praise God!

Parent of an autistic child

For this month’s life of an autism mother, I was hoping to report the outcome of Jayson’s IEP meeting, but of course, the meeting was cancelled due to the corona virus pandemic.  However, I am happy to report that Jayson continues to maintain his A in remembering his sight words and is really keeping up with the class.  Can I just say this is one very proud momma!  As parents and especially parents of an autistic child, we must be thankful even for the tiniest things my dear friends!!!

Raising an autistic child

Low’s for Jayson. Well with school being out, mommy has become a full time teacher OVERNIGHT!  OMG…I didn’t sign up for this!  I fire myself now lol…the beautiful thing is Jayson is a GREAT reader, but I am now able to see where he struggles…math!  Adding, subtraction, greater than and less than etc.  So how do and how did I tackle this? I started using skittles and fruit snacks (his two favorite candies) to help me explain to him what I was trying to convey.  I will let you all know what happens (but hopefully I am not a teacher for long).

My “me time” activities

a day in the life of an autism mom

So this month was my partner in crime’s birthday.  I cooked for her on Friday, Saturday and Sunday the first weekend in March!  Did I tell you all I love to cook?  Well I love the kitchen!  It’s my little sanctuary.  We ate and ate and ate!  My own personal one-on-one activity that I decided to do was to finally catch up on all wrestling episodes from Smackdown live to RAW and finally to NXT since my favorite wrestler Finn Balor left RAW.  Yeah yeah, you read it right. I watch wrestling.  It was something my baby sister Elsie and I watched a lot and I continued into adulthood being that I work with children.  It is a great icebreaker when you walk into a home and a child doesn’t want to open up and in the midst of the assessment, you mention a wrestling move and they GLOW…it’s absolutely amazing and makes my job so rewarding.  So that’s it.  That’s what we have been up to.  Please stay safe out there and know that “He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease” Psalm 91:3

With lots of love

Your friend in Christ,

M.J.
